In the first book of the series, we are introduced to Locke Lamora, an orphan who is taken in by a group of thieves known as the Gentleman Bastards. Under the tutelage of their leader, he becomes a master con artist. Set in the city of Camorr, Locke and his mentor navigate the underworld while executing elaborate heists against the rich elite. However, their plans are complicated by the arrival of a mysterious figure known as the Bondsmagi, who threatens the very fabric of their lives.

The second installment follows Locke and Jean as they escape their troubles in Camorr by taking to the high seas. They become embroiled in piracy, ship battles, and treachery as they contend with ruthless pirates and their own past misdeeds. The high-stakes adventures test their skills and their bond as friends, pushing them to new limits.

In the third book, Locke and Jean find themselves caught up in a political contest between rival factions.
