Biography
Tony Hillerman (1925-2008) was an American author best known for his series of mystery novels featuring Navajo Tribal Police officers Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee. Born in Sacred Heart, Oklahoma, Hillerman served in World War II before graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in journalism. He went on to work as a journalist and editor, eventually shifting his focus to writing fiction. Hillerman's novels, set in the Southwest United States, are celebrated for their authentic portrayal of Navajo culture and their intricate plots that blend detective fiction with Native American spirituality. His vivid descriptions of the landscape and deep character development have garnered him a loyal following of readers.
