Biography
Henning Mankell (1948-2015) was a Swedish author best known for creating the critically acclaimed Kurt Wallander series. Born in Stockholm, Mankell spent much of his early years in Africa, which influenced his writing and led to the creation of his most famous character, Detective Kurt Wallander. Mankell began his writing career in the 1970s, but it wasn't until the 1990s that he gained international recognition with the publication of his first Wallander novel, "Faceless Killers." The series, which follows the life and career of the introspective and complex detective, became a global phenomenon and was adapted into numerous films and television series. In addition to the Wallander series, Mankell also wrote several other novels, plays, and children's books. Known for his socially aware and politically engaged writing, Mankell used his work to address issues such as racism, colonialism, and poverty. With over 40 published works and numerous awards to his name, Henning Mankell remains one of the most influential and acclaimed crime fiction authors of his generation.
